Ryan, I drink in each word you write. Your analogies and insight are profound. Thank you for sharing such tender feelings and experiences. I’m not much of a reader (regrettably), but if you wrote a book, I’d not only read it… I’d memorize it. ❤️
Well if this wasn’t a sign to finally read my copy of ‘Finding the Mother Tree’ I don’t know what is! Honestly, Ryan just a fantastic post. So interesting and you have eloquently communicated the real depth and particular challenges unique to grief arising from pregnancy loss. Gorgeous x
We are on similar wavelengths this week! I also find the winter trees deeply healing, and used to go often to the Pine Barrens in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. I found it so reaffirming how the entire ecosystem grew from the ashes of a fire. Looking forward to following along on this creative healing journey.
Wow, I didn’t know about the history of that part of the garden! I’d love to walk there sometime. And yes, I saw so many beautiful parallels between our posts this week too!
Thank you for your beautiful words and metaphors, and all of the resources you’ve provided. I may be able to attend one of your events this winter, and I’m excited to see you there are pregnancy loss support circles as well!
Thank you! I am interested in some of their groups that are starting soon, but I’m also waiting to see if my fertility treatment worked, in terms of whether to join the miscarriage support group or the pregnancy after miscarriage group.
What a wonderful post. I too love the winter trees. I think of them as the lungs of the earth. The tracery of their branches remind me of the bronchioles, helping us all breathe. I hope your wounds heal over in time and that you find your new way forward.

Brooke, your words mean the world to me. Thank you. 🙏🏽
Someone just sent me this beautiful post. Thanks for writing it.
Beautiful photo of a winter Sycamore. They're my favorite winter trees right now. I recently wrote a mini-poem about them in someone else's Substack comments: https://open.substack.com/pub/antonia/p/the-gravity-of-a-labyrinth?r=ax57k&commentId=44375504
A podcast called The Emerald did an episode called Trauma & The Vegetation Gods; probably relevant to your interests: https://pca.st/kvy8gto6
I’m so glad you’re here! I love a labyrinth, myself. And absolutely a winter sycamore.

Honored to walk this path (and share these maps from sage authors) with you 🙏🏽

Liz, I’d love it if you were able to join! And I’m happy to talk about the longer 6-week support group experience anytime. It was lovely.

Holding space for all of this, and hope for you amidst it all ❤️🩹
